Another year has come and gone. Now with 2017 in my rearview mirror, it is time to take a look back at all the great things this year had to offer. From movies to series to video games to books, and things that do not fit in these categories. Let’s take a look at my favourites of 2017.
Moana/Vaiana: One of the first movies I saw in 2017 was Moana (or Vaiana if you live in Europe). I absolutely loved this movie. It was so colorful and vibrant and the story was great. I hope I can get the artbook for this movie some day.
Beauty and the Beast: Beauty and the Beast is my favourite Disney movie. So I couldn’t wait to see this liveaction version. Although there were some ups and downs I still really enjoyed this liveaction remake and I’ll probably rewatch it for years to come.
Pirates of the carribean: Salazar’s Revenge: Pirates of the Carribean movies are always very entertaining and this one was no exception. The story was interesting, the characters were great and the movie looked amazing. All in all a good time.
Spiderman: Homecoming: Another Spider-man reboot. Although I liked the previous one (because of Gwen Stacy), I was curious about this one as well. It definitely didn’t dissapoint. I liked the story with Vulture and the new Spiderman is really fun. I’m curious to see what they will do with Mary Jane’s character.
Wonder Woman: I have to admit that I kinda had given up on the DC movies. So far they have been very disappointing. Surprisingly though Wonder Woman was amazing. I absolutely loved this movie. I cannot wait to see how her story continues. Now I want to read Wonder Woman comics.
Thor: Ragnarok: Another great super hero movie was Thor Ragnarok. It was colourful, fast-paced and starred one of my favourite Avengers the Hulk. I was only a bit sad about how it ended.
Coco: This list stared with a Disney movie so it is only appropriate to finish it with a Disney movie. My last favourite movie of 2017 was Coco. The story was interesting and visually the movie was amazing. This is another one that I would love to own the artbook of.
Riverdale: Riverdale was my favourite show by far, this year. I even rewatched the first season. It was such an unique and interesting show and ofcourse I love a good murder mystery. Currently I’m watching season 2 and I hope that it has the same impact as season 1. We’ll see.
Shadowhunters: Although I’ve read only the first book of the Mortal Instruments I was very curious regarding the Shadowhunter world. So naturally I watched the show. So far it has been very entertaining, but I do feel there is still a bit of room for improvement.
The punisher: I was first introduced to The Punisher via the Daredevil series. Although the character was interesting at the time, I wasn’t expecting to really like a series about this character. That said, this series was amazing. One of my favourite Marvel series so far.
Supergirl: Another comic book inspired show that I watched was Supergirl. I love the overall positive vibe of the series and all the characters are amazing (especially Lena Luthor). I cannot wait to explore this series even more.
Legends of tomorrow: Yes, another comic book/super hero inspired show. Legends of Tomorrow is such a fun time travel adventure. I cannot wait to watch some more episodes. Unfortunately I have to catch up with the other DC series first, before I can continue watching.
Assassin’s Creed: Origins (PS4): Assassin’s Creed: Origins is one of the video games that I got to review this year. It looked and played amazingly. I cannot wait to continue with this adventure.
Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Milllionaire’s Conspiracy: Another game that I got to review this year is the Latest Layton game. What draws me to this series are the puzzles and the mystery. I really love a great mystery. This game was so much fun. The only regret that I have is that I haven’t had the time to finish this game.
Pokemon: Moon: I still haven’t completed Pokemon Moon, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying the beautiful area called Alola. Also Rowlet is amazing. I love this game.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: Although I haven’t played this game that much, from what I saw it was amazing. It was the reason that I bought the Nintendo Switch. No regrets.
Daughter of the Pirate King: One of the few books that I read this year was Daughter of the Pirate King. I think this was around the time that the latest Pirates of the Carribean movie came out. This book had such an amazing main character. Alosa is a bad-ass. Thankfully, the next book will be released this year. If you love a good female pirate story than this is the book for you.
Flying Witch vol.1: Flying Witch is a cute manga about the daily life of a witch in modern Japan. It is such a feel-good manga. I immediately bought the next few volumes after finishing the first one.
The Little Book of Hygge: Tha Danish Way to Live Well: Hygge was a very interesting book to read. It’s great to read about why people are happy. I also really loved the images and the style of the book.
Harry Potter illustrated: Although I love the Harry Potter series I do not have the complete serie in one edition. Some of the books are Dutch and some of them are English. When I came across these editions I decided to finally start collecting one kind of edition of the Harry Potter series. So far only the first three books have been released and I bought them all. The illustrations are amazing.
Ready Player 3: The Game Grumps are one of my favourite YouTubers. So I was really happy when I managed to get tickets for their show in Amsterdam. It was so entertaining and I was so happy to see them and Jacksepticeye in real life. I do hope they return to the Netherlands soon.
Bb-8 droid: I love gadgets and I fell in love with Bb-8 after watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens. So when I saw the Sphero droids I knew I had to have one. He is so cute and small and I love it when he rolls around the living room. Droids are great.
Google Home Mini: So at my current job I got a Google Home Mini for Christmas. I love these kind of devices so I installed it right away. She is a great assistant and now that she is synched up with my Chromecast, I can just tell google what to play on YouTube and Netflix. She is so cool. I’m even thinking about getting some Philips Hue lights that I can connect to Google Home Mini.
Although 2017 has been an interesting year, I hope that 2018 will be even greater. With more great book, series and more. With that in mind, keep a look out for my post Releases of 2018, where I mention some of the things that I’m looking forward to. Now all that’s left to say is Goodbye 2017.
